SHANGRILA FINEST CHINESE CUISINE NEW YEAR CELEBRATION

Chinese New Year, It is one of the world's most prominent and celebrated festivals, with the largest annual mass human migration in the world. It is a major holiday in China. Also known as the Spring Festival or simply the Lunar New Year.

In modern China, is an important Chinese festival celebrated at the turn of the traditional lunisolar Chinese Calendar. Celebrations traditionally run from the evening preceding the first day, to the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first calendar month. The first day of the New Year falls on the new moon between 21 Jan and 20 Feb. In 2017, the first day of the Lunar New Year was on Saturday, 28 January, initiating the year of the Rooster. The upcoming year of the Dog commences on Friday, 16 February 2018. Has had a strong influence on the lunar new year celebrations of its geographic neighbors, including Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Mauritius, Australia, and the Philippines.

I had the privilege to experience Chinese New Year at it's most delectable way of celebrating it last January 27, 2018, at Shangri - La Finest Chinese Cuisine located at 4 Times Street, West Triangle, Quezon City.

Prosperity Toss, or also known as Yusheng or Yeesang (which is also the name of the salad dish), the person who tosses the highest will be prosperous. Mixed with shredded vegetables and a variety of sauces and condiments, among other ingredients, is said to attain the most prosperity.

Whenever Chinese New Year is being celebrated I always look forward of their delectable meals one of which are the dumplings the must-eat food on Chinese New Year's Eve, the different noodle soup, spring rolls or sticky rice cake, their rice full of kinds of seafood on it, the fish which I believe emphasizes lucky symbolic meanings which means 'surplus' and a lot more delicious Chinese food. Their traditions and celebrations vary greatly across the country. The main traditions include eating reunion dinner with family, giving red envelopes, firecrackers, new clothes, and decorations.

“I want them to experience the utopian feeling of happiness like you’d never want to get out of Shangri-la” ~Ramon Syhunliong, Businessman 65-year Old Restaurateur

It was the first blogger's food tasting event of Shangri - La Finest Chinese Cuisine. A very traditional company and a heritage restaurant, one of their prominent and well-known guest who had dine in is Saint John Paul II which they had preserved the utensils he had used when he dine in at the restaurant. The place named “Shangri-la” was a utopian sanctuary where one finds inner peace, love, fulfillment and longevity.

Here is the sumptuous Chinese food we had eaten:
With 35 years of exceptional food and excellent service, Shangri-La continues this tradition to this day with its all-time favorites like the Peking Duck, Sweet, and Sour Pork, and its very own version of the Pancit Canton.  If you fancy only the freshest, Shangri-La also offers a wide variety of seafood caught from its own aquarium.

SET A

Steamed King Fish with Taoso and Soy Sauce
This is a must-have dish in any Chinese New Year Dinner. Fish is a symbol of prosperity and surplus. Additional it’s just a delicious dish to have.

Fried Garlic Chicken (Medium: Php 360.00 / Large: Php 590.00)

Yeung Chow Fried Rice
Originated from the city of Yangzhou in Jiangsu province. (with egg, pork, chicken, beef, vegetable, etc.). I call this a stand-alone dish. A complete meal because it has everything in it already such as grain, seafood or meat or both, vegetables and seasoning.

Beef Tenderloin Chinese Style

Misua Guisado

Fishlips with Shredded Meat Soup (Small: Php 470.00 / Medium: Php 700.00 / Large: Php 940.00)

Assorted Dumplings (sharksfin, kutchay, century egg siomai, pork siomai)
Dumplings are a famous traditional northern Chinese food. Dumplings are named according to their various fillings and cooking methods (fried, heated in boiling water, or steamed). Eating dumplings are said to bring good fortune financially, as dumplings look like ingots, the currency used in old times.

Almond Jelly with Lychess ~ Php 65.00 per cup

Fried Sesame Balls (Butchi)
A famous Chinese deep-fried snack for Chinese New Year has always been one of the most popular desserts in China and Taiwan. This dessert is better served while it’s still hot and it’s not suitable for storing in the fridge. Ideally, once it has been cooked try to eat it as soon as possible for the best taste for these sesame seed balls.

SET B

Assorted Cold Cuts (Small: Php 430.00 / Medium: Php 640.00 / Large: Php 860.00)

Shredded Spinach with Assorted Seafood Soup

Fried Tikoy
Better known as tikoy, a sticky rice cake made with glutinous rice flour, sometimes steamed and, at other times, cooked in a pan and stirred until thick. It may be savory or sweetened. It may simply be pan fried, stir fried with meat and vegetables, dropped into soups or made into a pudding.

Lotus Pie

Grilled Noodles with 8 Treasures

Steamed Lapu Lapu in Soy Sauce

Shelled shrimps with ham and pepper

Pork Spare Ribs in XO Sauce

Sweet and Sour Pork
The most well-known Chinese recipe in the world is a classic Cantonese dish. Called “goo lou yok” in Cantonese dialect, sweet and sour pork is very pleasing to the palate because of the flavorsome sweet and sour sauce—the sweetness from sugar plus the tangy ketchup and sharp rice vinegar—with the crispy fried pork pieces. (You can check out my sweet and sour chicken recipe.) The green and red bell peppers and pineapple pieces are just icing on the cake.

The main menu of Chinese New Year

Peking Duck 2 Ways
What could be better than a meal fit for an emperor -- Peking Duck? The key to good Peking duck is the many-stage and all-day process of drying the skin, removing excess fat and glazing the bird with aromatic ingredients so that the roasted bird is crispy on the outside, lean, not greasy, and very moist on the inside. The duck skin peers out like quarry shielded by spears of cucumber and leaves of leeks.
